Yes it has been quite a while since I’ve posted but it always seems like time slips away during wrestling season. That being said, I’m back with a pretty nice project idea that should captivate every student in your classroom. Obviously I take no credit for this but it is too great not to share. (Of course, I’ve lost the link to the blog I found it on)
Idea: Creating a fake Facebook profile.
Students will use information they have researched on a specific person, situation, or object to create a Facebook profile. There are many ways this can be accomplished but the best one I’ve seen so far is through PowerPoint (we're using it on 2003). Most elements of a Facebook profile are included in this project including wall, info, and pictures. Most of the links work (when you view the slideshow) just as a web page would work.
The example linked below is to a profile done on John F. Kennedy. You’ll notice you can have pictures and status updates on JFK’s wall as well as change the information in his info page. You can also add images to a pictures page just as you would have them on a Facebook profile.
There are tons of different ways you can go with this project as any person can be substituted for JFK. I’ll be doing this with my freshmen soon who have just finished Romeo and Juliet in their English classes. This should provide a great cross-curriculum review of the story.
Follow the link below for the .ppt file. When it opens, choose file -----> Download.
